Cinco De Mayo 2023, it’s baaaaaaaaack!

Alright all you tequila lovers, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we don’t mean Christmas! Don’t get us wrong, we love Christmas as much as you all, but this is the time of year tequila lovers come out to really show everyone how it’s done! Now, we won’t hit you with the whole “true meaning of Cinco de Mayo,” like in years past, but just in case if you need a history refresher you can click here. No, we’re here to tell all you tequila pros about some fun alternative methods to enjoy some of the world’s best tequila, and this would be our Señor Rio of course, this Cinco De Mayo weekend. So without further ado, let’s jump into some of the better known, and less well known methods of enjoying tequila this awesome holiday!

  1. Tequila Sunrise: So you’ve probably heard of this one before, and for good reason, it’s not just a great way to get going in the morning, it’s also a classic Eagles song! For those of you in a hot part of the country, this cocktail is also a great refreshing drink that is perfect for summer. It is made by combining 1.5 oz of tequila, 3 oz orange juice, and .5 oz grenadine, which gives the drink a beautiful red and orange color. First, pour your tequila and OJ into a highball glass over ice. The grenadine is added last, so it sinks to the bottom of the glass, creating a sunrise effect. Any glass will do, but as we mentioned earlier It is typically served in a tall glass over ice and garnished with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
  1. Paloma: The Paloma is another popular tequila-based cocktail that’s an alternative to a margarita and the number one cocktail in Mexico, but is still easy to make and delicious to drink. Start with a glass that you can muddle in and moisten the rim with a lime wedge then dip the rim in tajin seasoning. Next combine one slice of grapefruit, orange and lime then add about 2 oz Reposado Señor Rio tequila and muddle well, top off with 6 oz grapefruit juice or soda (we prefer Squirt), but whatever works for you. The drink is typically served in a glass over ice and garnished with a lime wedge. Once again, this is a refreshing and slightly tart drink that is perfect for those who want something lighter, or are already experiencing some of that summer heat!
  1. Tequila Old Fashioned: So we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention it. While this year’s CInco falls on a Friday (woohoo), it is followed by another great cocktail holiday this Saturday, the Kentucky Derby! For those who enjoy whiskey-based cocktails, the Tequila Old Fashioned is a great option to try. It is made by combining about 2 oz of our elegant añejo, a couple dashes of bitters, sugar, and a splash of water. The drink is typically served in a glass with ice and garnished with an orange twist and maraschino cherry, but once again you can use whatever glass you prefer. The Tequila Old Fashioned is a great way to showcase the complexity and depth of our award winning Anejo’s flavor profile.

Alright tequila lovers, there’s your game plan for this Cinco de Mayo and beyond! Now, it is important to remember that while Cinco de Mayo is a festive holiday, it is important to enjoy tequila responsibly. We want you all to have fun, and we want you to come back in one piece! So please, go out, enjoy, and show everyone how the pros do it: safely, responsibly, and preferably with all their clothes still on at the end of the night! While the amateurs have their face planted in that bowl of guacamole, you’ll be holding strong like the real aficionados you are! So enjoy, have fun, and as always, Salud!
